While the dental office has always been one of the cleanest and safest environments in health care, the global pandemic has forced us push the envelope to make things even safer. At North Berkeley Dentistry, we are proud to say we believe we are one of the safest dental offices in the nation.
Each one of our treatment rooms has been engineered with negative pressure circulation. This means that the air in the operatories does not go into our hallways and common areas. The air exchanges twenty times per hour in each operatory. The air comes from outside and it exhausts outside. It's almost as if you are being treated outside!
Each operatory is outfitted with an Austin Air Filter with HEPA technology. These units filter down to 0.1 micron which is smaller than the coronavirus.
We have switched to using Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) as our primary disinfectant. HOCl is a safe, non-toxic, food grade disinfectant that is even more effective than bleach at killing Sars-CoV-2. We use this solution to wipe down chairs, shelves, and equipment in our treatment rooms between patients.
Our providers will be wearing eye protection, face shields, bouffants, and gowns that are changed between every appointment. Upon request, clinical staff such as your dentist, hygienist, and dental assistant, will wear N95 masks to each of your appointments. Clinical staff is required to change into clothing provided at the office when they arrive and change back into their street clothes when they leave. Our gowns and scrub pants are washed in high heat to kill pathogens. This system helps us reduce waste and stay green while also increasing the safety of our staff and patients!
